Description:  As Connecting Streams grows, so does the need for some of our staff team to have administrative help in place. The duties for this volunteer position vary; may include regular flexible-time tasks.


Currently Available

 Title: Administrative Assistant

Time: 5 to 10 hours per week, flexible

Position:  

  • We are in need of someone with a strong commitment to the Vision and Mission of Connecting Streams to assist our Ottawa Volunteer Coordinator.
  • This person will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator in the screening and placement process of new volunteers for the Ottawa area.
  • This position is well-suited to someone who:
    • has good oral and written communication skills,
    • has administrative and computer skills,
    • has good organizational skills,
    • has the ability to maintain confidentiality, and
    • is reliable and responsible.

Description:  Staying connected through the various social media platforms plays an important role in the growth of the Connecting Streams Ministry.

Time: 5 to 8 hours per week, flexible

Position:  

  • We are in need of someone with a strong commitment to the Vision and Mission of Connecting Streams to assist our Ottawa City Leader and Volunteer Coordinator.  
  • This person will create ministry and volunteer e-newsletters using our TAKE2 videos and input from the Ottawa City Leader. Manage the CS Ottawa Facebook page and provide assistance with website content updates.
  • This position is well-suited to someone who:
    • has good oral and written communication skills,
    • has in-depth computer skills,
    • has good knowledge of the latest social media platforms,,
    • has the ability to implement tactics to strengthen awareness and messaging,
    • is detail-oriented, and
    • is reliable and responsible.

Description:  As Connecting Streams Ottawa grows, so does the need to come alongside our regular volunteers to provide them support, encouragement and help them find the best fit for their giftings.


 Title:  Volunteer Coordinator

Time:  5 to 10 hours per week, flexible (some weekday availability an asset)

Position:  

We are in need of someone with a strong commitment to the Vision and Mission of Connecting Streams to assist our Ottawa Training and Leadership Development staff.

This person will work closely with volunteers, doing volunteer intake, represent and promote Connecting Streams at events, encourage volunteers to grow, and assist with training events.

This position is well-suited to someone who:

  • has good written and communication skills,
  • has good organizational skills,
  • has interpersonal skills, and
  • is energetic, reliable and responsible.

Description: This group ministers to immigrants, refugees and newcomers to Ottawa by teaching English as a second language. Our aim is to build relationship while helping them learn English.


Team Leaders:    Deborah and Theresa

Time:  evenings

What to expect:  These teams will meet downtown, one evening a week from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.  Each evening includes:

  • an activity-based English lesson,
  • conversational practice, and
  • short talks about Jesus to encourage newcomers as they seek to integrate into society.

We can provide training and resources for the English lessons.

Location:  Peter D. Clarke Center, Long Term Care, 9 Meridian Pl, Nepean, ON, K2G 6P8


Description: This group ministers to seniors in long-term care and those experiencing end of life challenges, by touching lives through worship, prayer, fellowship and teaching.


Team Leader:    Debra Duncan

Time:  Fridays  1:30 p.m.

What to expect:  Volunteers meet with the residents in a spirit of worship and fellowship. Music, sharing and activities are designed to engage the residents and encourage them to grow in their relationship with God.

Location:  395 Somerset Street West, Ottawa


Description: This group ministers to seniors in city-operated apartments. It is a fun and safe place to meet new friends, enjoy food, share stories and ask spiritual questions.


Team Leaders:    Agnus & Kyla

Time:  Mondays  6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

What to expect:  Volunteers who can look after the set up and take down of the chairs, etc., and bring snacks. Volunteers meet, greet, and interact with the residents.

Location:  Peace Tower Church(Basement Fellowship Hall) 343 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa


Description: This group will reach men and women who have been previously incarcerated, creating a place for them to receive love, acceptance and support on their spiritual journey.


Team Leaders:    Daphne & Dave

What to expect:  You will be part of a team that will be trained in befriending and walking alongside those who have been incarcerated. 

Current Volunteer Needs:

  • weekly volunteers – especially men

Location:  60 Cambridge Street North, Ottawa


Description:  This group ministers to adults with complex care needs who deal with a variety of health challenges and spiritual needs.


Team Leaders:   Deborah and Theresa

Time:   Saturdays  12:30 – 3:00 p.m.

What to expect:   Set up and tear down of room, porter patients to the fifth floor and back, worship and singing, biblical teaching and encouragement. After the event, time for the team to debrief and learn from one another.

Current Volunteer Needs: 

  • lead vocalist and musician
  • porters to bring residents to and from the service
  • volunteers to encourage, welcome, and help patients know they are loved and cared for; to pray with patients as requested

This team always has room for committed, regular volunteers who are looking for a practical way to demonstrate the love and care of Jesus. Ongoing, on-site mentoring/coaching provided.

Women only Volunteers

Location:  Bridlewood Community Church, 2 Stonehaven Drive, Ottawa


Description: Grief Series: An 8 week grief support group for widows at all stages of their journey. With a sensitivity to those who may have little, or no faith, W2W volunteers come alongside widows for support, healthy socializing, and an introduction to the love and care of God through Jesus.

Time:  Wednesdays  1:00-3:00p.m.

What to expect:  Weekly small groups are available and based on interest e.g. Bible Study, book club, bowling, etc
