How To Prepare A Spiritual Talk

TAKE 2 minutes FOR TRAINING

TRANSCRIPT

Every person needs to learn how to prepare a spiritual talk.

We’re putting up this theme verse: Jesus said, “Are you tired?  Worn out? Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.  Walk with me.  Work with me. Watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won’t lay anything heavy or ill fitting on you.  Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

So it doesn’t take forever to make disciples, but you look at Jesus… three years his ministry lasted and look what he did in those three years.  He took fisherman, ordinary people and was able to show them how to live and teach and do everything. Left them, sent the Holy Spirit to be with them and then they carried out his mission.

So “Keep company with Jesus.”  For me that means getting into scripture.  Getting into the gospels.  The Old Testament is great but it’s shadows and dimly seen things.  The reality that it’s pointing to is Jesus.  So what could be better than spending time with Jesus?

How do you do that?  The Sermon on the Mount’s a great place to start.  You want to know what Jesus teaches?  Just meditate on that. That’s a good starting point.

Then spend a lot of time in the gospels. And Jesus said “Walk with me.  Work with me.  Watch how I do it.”  Watch how he did it in the gospels.  Keep company with Jesus.  You’ll learn how to live and it’ll spill over to other people.

So that’s what we’re going to do.  As we learn, when you learn how to do spiritual talks, I want to challenge you.

Start reading the gospels and look at, “Who is Jesus talking to and what did he say? Who am I reaching out to?  Who am I dealing with?”

And then learn from Jesus the way, simple…. simple…. His talks are very simple.  And there is always something you could take home.
