Gap Program For Students
Ignite Your Faith
Discover Your Calling
Serve Boldly
Synopsis
That’s where the Gap Program for Students (GPS) comes in. This year-long program is designed to see you move from a place of wondering what the future holds to embracing God’s call on your life! You’ll have the opportunity to ignite your faith, discover your calling, and boldly serve God’s Kingdom as you dive into experiences that broaden your horizons.
The year after high school is a great time to get to know more about who you are and how you can uniquely engage and impact the world around you. By participating in GPS before pursuing higher education or entering the workforce, you can find your passions and discover a truly life-giving path.
Community Living
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
From September till May you will experience a deep, life-giving community. In a shared house, you will live with fellow housemates as well as older students who will help mentor, disciple, and guide you through the journey of discovering God’s plan. You’ll spend time together building relationships, sharing meals, and enjoying lots of laughs. The beauty of community is the people you share it with, and this is no exception!
WHERE WILL I BE?
Location(s) – Ottawa
Academics
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Part of equipping you for your next steps in life is giving you opportunities to question, learn, and grow. You’ll take 4 fully accredited courses during your time in GPS and be able to transfer these courses to any school and/or program you choose after you finish! Through the blended in-person and online learning models, you can work at your own pace and alongside your peers; discussing topics such as “who is God?”, “who am I?”, “How do I love my neighbour?” and “How do I read my Bible?”. By taking two courses in each half of the year, you will be able to fully engage in the content without being overwhelmed by the workload.
Experiential Learning
WHAT WILL I DO?
The year is split into three parts:
Part 1: Survey of Ministries (September-December)
During our survey of ministries, you will have the opportunity to experience numerous kinds of ministry across a number of disciplines. Some of these are more traditional church-ministry experiences, and others are less traditional such as ministry within the field of Environmental Science.
Part 2: International Service Learning Trip (January)
For the month of January, we will embark on a Service Learning Trip overseas. Working alongside Global Aid Network to meet the needs of people across the world, you will serve practical needs and learn the importance of sharing the gospel through intentional relationships that respect and care for others.
Part 3: Internships (February-May)
After you return from your time overseas, we’ll spend time discussing and debriefing your experiences so far, as well as helping you discover your passions and areas of interest. Based on your interests, you’ll choose an area of ministry to join for a 14 week internship. You will work on a day-to-day basis gaining skills, experience, and knowledge that will help you as you pursue God’s call on your life.
