This past Journey retreat was marked by something truly special—connection. While cancellations came in just days before the event, every spot was filled with women from the waitlist. From the moment they arrived, the atmosphere was open, honest, and deeply personal.
For the first time, we welcomed two young women who had recently exited trafficking situations. Both are facing their traffickers in court soon and are navigating new beginnings. Watching them begin to open up, laugh, and experience community was a gift.
Even with last-minute changes—like one of our massage volunteers having to cancel due to an emergency—our team stepped up. Another volunteer, though completely out of her comfort zone, offered to help. Our hairdresser also arrived solo after her friend fell ill, but made sure every guest felt seen and cared for. These small acts of faithfulness reminded us just how much God works through willing hearts.
One of the most moving moments came during Sunday’s closing activity: the spool exercise.
A long thread was passed from one woman to another, each offering a word of affirmation.
Usually, it moves between guests and volunteers—but this time, nearly all of the guests gave their affirmation to another guest.
It was a powerful visual of the connection built throughout the weekend.
And then there was the rain. A steady, peaceful rain fell—no one complained. In fact, some ran outside, laughing as they let it fall over them. It was almost symbolic, as if they were embracing the cleansing love of Christ, free and unashamed.
Please continue to pray for these women as they return to everyday life. That they would remember how loved and valued they are. That they would continue to seek Jesus. And that the connections made during this retreat would grow into lasting, life-giving friendships.
