“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.”– 1 PETER 1:14
Once we grow up we think we know better. We want to do our own thing, make our own decisions, satisfy our own desires.
Obedience is not age specific. Peter admonishes us that we should live as God’s obedient children. We will always be children in his eyes. We go backwards in life when we “slip back” into our old ways of living for ourselves first. Living for self leads us into all kinds of bondage and pain. Living as obedient children of God leads to true freedom, joy, love, and a life that satisfies our deepest needs.
We have a heavenly calling and the only way to live it out is to be God’s obedient children.
Our Father, thank you for rescuing me from my empty way of life that concentrates on satisfying our own desires. I believe you know what is best for me. Give me an undivided heart to follow and obey you wholeheartedly, which will enable me to live out your plan for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
