Do you remember the classic carnival game Wack-A-Mole? You’d put the quarters in, grab a mallet, and then little creatures will pop up sporadically through the holes in front of you. You’d try to wack as many as possible back down and gain points as you do so until the timer runs out.
During our day of prayer last week, I was thinking about this as we were praying against schemes of the enemy. The enemy is always sneaking around trying find different holes in our lives that he can weasel his way through to cause a wreck in our lives.
We can be defensive and try to knock him out of certain areas of our lives as they come up – this is decently effective, but you might start to feel panicked and he gain easily gain ground as he knows where he will pop up before you do.
We could alternatively be on the offensive. Through praying regularly, reading and memorizing scripture, and proclaiming God’s truth and victory, we could cover up a lot of holes in Jesus’ name so that Satan can’t even get through.
I realize this isn’t a perfect analogy, but I hope that it serves as an encouragement towards active and diligent prayer.
Isaiah 54:17 encourages us, “…no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”
