God is Love. Our part is to express His love through obedience, taking the specific actions He direct us to do, toward those He brings into our lives. Someone who volunteers with Connecting Streams Langley shared her experience of obeying God’s prompting:
As she sat near the front of a bus, an angry shouting match unfolded between the bus driver and a passenger who claimed to have no money for the fare. As she prayed into the situation, God told her to share His love with the passenger. Though she felt nervous, when they got off at the same stop she tried to strike up a conversation, but with little success. When she saw that he intended to board another bus, she offered to pay his fare, so that he wouldn’t have to undergo that humiliation again.
Immediately he softened up, telling her that he was down on his luck. Before the next bus came he received not only the fare, but words of witness about God’s love for him. Just a cup of cold water, or a bus fare, or a few minutes of listening – all are small things that God can use to help draw people into relationship with Jesus.
“And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” Matthew 10:42 (ESV)
