Testimony from Tara Penner, Ministry Representative for Connecting Streams
I have been listening to the song Touch the Sky by Hillsong United a lot lately, and I keep getting caught on the lyric that says, “I found my life when I laid it down.” It’s a take on Matthew 10:39:
“If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”
I kept turning these words over in my head, loving how they sounded, when all of a sudden I was flooded with the realization that I have experienced this. My heart was gripped as I was flooded with amazement and gratitude that I can testify to the truth of this Scripture.
My life has not turned out how I planned. I had planned on being single; now I’m married. My husband has enriched my life in countless ways, he has helped me to be strong and courageous to follow Jesus when it’s been scary and our marriage has refined me, which I am ever grateful for. I planned on developing a secure career as a pharmacist; now I have my dream job working for Connecting Streams, doing something that I passionately care about.
Not everyone has that luxury in life. As I have given up my plans and dreams somehow I have ended up with this life that is exciting, fulfilling, refining and challenging. It is a life of substance. I am in awe of our mighty God and the way He works. He brings us to obedience and to His path and transforms our lives while we are in the midst of them. He sneaks His grace up on us so quietly that when our eyes are opened to it, it’s all around us.
As I have laid my life down, He has truly given me the best life I could imagine; the life He created me for.
