Saving Private Christian

By Allan Mitchell

“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4

Throughout history, many brave souls fought unavoidable battles against formidable enemies, defying tyranny to preserve freedom and defend truth. Today, although the world appears primarily peaceful and secure, many believers forget that they are combatants in a continual covert spiritual conflict.

A common misconception among believers is that the world is a safe nurturing environment. Regrettably, with the exception of Christ’s influence, this world is deceptively hostile. Satan continually employs clever cultural lures such as comfort to cultivate an attitude of apathy and appeasement.

Using secular mediums, he subtly indoctrinates us with counterfeit truths that subliminally persuade us to compromise God’s truth. Satan observes and exploits our vulnerabilities. Jesus reiterated that Satan seeks to ambush our faith’s integrity by seeking to steal, kill, and destroy us.

Living the Christian life is not a passive pursuit. As long as we inhabit this environment, we will encounter spiritual warfare. 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us that Satan stalks us like a lion, observing our every move and vulnerability. In this real inescapable conflict, believers must resolve to confront or they become susceptible to compromise. Keeping integrity involves immersing ourselves in God’s word, clothing ourselves in His righteousness, and protecting ourselves with His armor. As spiritual soldiers, God thoroughly equips us to overcome the enemy’s strategy, snare, and stronghold.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that in Jesus I have complete authority and power over the enemy. Protect me from the plans of the enemy. Clothe me in Your armor and help me to hide Your Word in my heart as a weapon of truth.

Take Action

Prayerfully reflect on today’s verse. Ask God to reveal insights to inform your perception of spiritual warfare. Share with a friend what you’re learning. They are in the battle too.

Try spiritual warfare David-style.
