Connecting Streams: A Year in Review

Another year has gone by and we are thankful for all the Lord has done through our volunteer teams and staff.  My prayer for this past year was that we would be faithful and courageous in our pursuit of God and praying His Kingdom will come and His will be done among those we were seeking to reach.  I believe that prayer was answered!

2014 brings so many opportunities to be faithful ambassadors, to share Jesus’ story and bring His love to those who need it the most.  May the captives be set free, broken hearts be comforted, and the redeeming grace of Jesus Christ flow into every place we enter.

Thank you for your willingness to serve and for your on-going support.  Happy New Year!

God Bless,

Donna Mitchell

Verse of the Month

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.  Isaiah 61:1

A Year of Connecting Streams

The Lord has blessed us with another amazing year.  Our volunteer led teams presented the gospel and promoted discipleship in the places that need it the most.  As a ministry we’ve experienced spiritual growth, received answers to prayer and an abundance of the Lord’s blessings.

Working with both men and women in correctional facilities, young offenders, men and women struggling with addiction, widows, widowers and others who are marginalized, Connecting Streams Volunteer teams had opportunities to share Jesus’ love.

We’ve witness men and women come to Christ, experience love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace; and begin to share those things with the people around them.  Read a story about grace in a women’s prison group.

We held a Ministry Training Event in early February in Saskatoon to help inspire, strengthen and challenge volunteers interested in ministry there.

We also started building the Connecting Streams community online, sharing devotionals, ministry resources news and events.  If you haven’t already, be sure to join us on Facebook and Twitter.

In March we held a Volunteer Training Event with the theme “Reaching the Least of These” with keynote speaker Rob C. Thiessen, Director of the Hope for Freedom Society.  Learning that our most important job is to show up, love and listen – be patient, keep it simple and allow God to reveal His much bigger plan.  Read more and view resources from this event.

Women’s Journey of Faith held the “Sharing the Journey” event in April in Saskatoon.  Donna Mitchell had the opportunity to speak at this event.  It was a time of encouragement, inspiration, laughter, sound teaching, accountability and friendship.  Read more about Sharing the Journey.

As spring turned to summer we celebrated our volunteers at an appreciation dessert evening in our own hearts as well.  Connecting Streams leaders and volunteers shared their testimonies of God’s faithfulness and their own personal faith experiences.  Watch this video, or visit our YouTube Channel to hear more personal testimonies.

In June many of us participated in the Roy Financial Mayor’s Walk for Charity to help raise money for Connecting Streams.  The event was successful – thank you to everyone who participated and donated.  We held another fundraising event, running the concession at the Endless Summer Show ‘n Shine at the Sherwood Park Alliance Church in August.

In the fall we held our Volunteer Training Event.  This event was for leaders and volunteers from any ministry, equipping them with tools and encouragement that will help advance their ministries.  Read feedback from the event and view photos here.

Just last month we had the Widows 2 Widows Christmas Banquet.  This special event brought widows together, sharing the blessings of Christmas in a loving community.

Most recently Connecting Streams developed “Stream Voices”, a free E-book filled with testimonies and faith adventure stories from volunteers, leaders, and staff.  Please download your free copy of Stream Voices here.

There are many opportunities to get involved with Connecting Streams.  Whether you want to serve on our team, or join a team of volunteers, or start your own ministry team, we can equip you to bring Jesus into the hurting world.  Are you ready to embark on your faith adventure?
