A Wise Choice

By Donna Mitchell

Share this: Choose to thank the LORD and praise Him out loud – it will change your perspective! http://powertochange.com/blogposts/2013/09/21/a-wise-choice/

“Let all that I am praise the LORD;
With my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.
Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me.” (Psalm 103:1-2 NLT)

Have you every felt paralyzed with anxiety over your circumstances? Do you struggle to focus and pray when fear arises as you consider all of the challenges in your life?

Fear wanted to take over my life and in the midst I sensed the Lord prompting me to praise and thank Him – this was the last thing I felt like doing! My heart was not “feeling” thankful. However, I was feeling desperate – so I decided to make a choice. I turned to Psalm 103 and began to pray.

I read the words out loud – choosing to remember His blessings and give Him thanks. Then, I turned to Psalm 40 continued to pray aloud…

“He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.”

As I prayed, I chose to lift my eyes off of my circumstances and focus on the Lord. It is amazing how He can change our perspective when our eyes are on His ability rather than whatever is overwhelming us. He put a new song in my heart. There was a breakthrough – the heaviness lifted and I could see His promises in the midst of my circumstances. What are you thankful for today?

Father God, I choose today to praise and thank You. As I pray through Your word, change my heart, grant to me Your perspective, give me Your peace and hope, work powerfully in my circumstances as only You can. Help me trust You with a thankful heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Action Step: Begin today to choose to praise the LORD thankfully. Use Psalm 103, Psalm 40 or your favorite verses to pray through your anxiety – a simple step that could make a world of difference.
