When the Lord calls us to step out in faith, He promises us that He will be with us. He is the One who works, and the One who opens doors before us. He makes our paths straight. He promises to lead and guide us if we will allow Him. By faith, we take steps, not by sight – we step out in faith because He tells us to – not because we know people’s response or because we expect a positive outcome.
Recently, I reflected on the principle of “knocking” – checking doors, checking where people are at – not with assumptions or specific expectations but with persistent curious wondering. Whether you invite someone to come to an Alpha course with you, or whether you ask them to join a volunteer team and reach out to others with you, or whether you ask them to support or financially sponsor you – the principle is the same. We cannot foresee how the Lord is working in people’s hearts, so we need to “knock” – to check, to ask, to wonder, and to see if anyone is remotely interested!
We can never make assumptions, even from past experience. For the people who rejected your invitation before – then, consider this: maybe God is working in their hearts and they are now ready to accept your invitation. Maybe, the Lord is calling them and cultivating their faith and their courage to take a risk and volunteer. Maybe the Lord is speaking to them, and when you “knock” or ask – now, prepared by the Lord Himself, they are ready to positively respond. So, don’t be afraid to take risks – to step out in faith and knock or ask – the Lord Himself goes before you and with you. Pray through every step of faith. In Luke 11:9 10, Jesus teaches us a lesson about prayer…Jesus says…
“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10 NLT
