In the book Kisses from Katie, Katie Davis shares her story of starting a children’s ministry at the age of 19 in Uganda. This mission was full of uncertainty and potential danger, but still Katie said she was “more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self serving society and failing to follow Jesus” than she was of all of those risks. Katie follows Jesus into a hurting world and gains an abundant life as she gives hers away. In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus promises this for every believer.
We will never drift into following – we need to take deliberate steps – sometimes radical steps to change direction, to shake loose from the comfort that keeps us safe but threatens our life. (Read more…)

Verse of the Month
“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:24,25

I taught “The Compass” in Grande Prairie, Alberta for a number of years. During that time several ladies gave their hearts to Jesus, as a direct result of the Scriptures written in “The Compass”!
This is by far the best outreach Bible study (I refer to it as a new life map) I have ever encountered or had the privilege to lead. The user friendly format was well received. The appeal to non-believers is not threatening but thought provoking. I know the Holy Spirit used every moment to draw each of others closer to Jesus and each other.
Gloria & I would deliberately pray with and for the staff, as well as the ladies in our groups. I particularly enjoyed the pace of “The Compass”– we did not have a preset number of pages per week – rather we went the pace of the members in each group. Naturally, that varied based on the ladies involved.
…it was truly an exhilarating time to watch lives transformed by this study.
Devotional: U-Turns & New Beginnings
By Donna Mitchell
Do you ever feel like starting over – from the beginning? Maybe you feel like somewhere along life’s journey you have taken a wrong turn and you want to get back on the right track. Maybe you feel like you have made such a mess of things that you just want to wipe the slate clean and start again.
When I was in Bible College, a friend had a poster on her wall that read, “God allows U-turns.” It impacted me – the Lord must have known that in my journey and relationship with Him, I would repeatedly need that message.
Most of the time, we do not have the luxury of changing our circumstances at will; however, new beginnings come with change in attitude. Sometimes we need a renewed commitment to stay the course…
Please note the Volunteer Training and Commission Event has a NEW DATE AND VENUE! It will now be held at The Park Church, Sherwood Park on October 26th, 2013. Details are below!
