Let Jesus Wreck Your Life

Blog post for Equipping Evangelists

By Donna Mitchell

Let Jesus wreck your life!

Kisses from KatieI am reflecting often on a book I read recently.  I am recommend it to everyone – it has profoundly affected me.  “A passion to follow Jesus” are words used to describe Katie Davis.  Katie wrote her story in Kisses from Katie, now a New York Times Bestseller.  Katie explains in the introduction that “Jesus wrecked my life.”

Most of us don’t want to let Jesus wreck our life – at least, not completely.

I was moved by Katie’s willingness to leave her comfort zone in Tennessee at the age of 19 to begin a ministry for children in Uganda.  Her biggest fear was not the danger, uncertainty and risks she experienced in Uganda but she was “more terrified of living a comfortable life in a self-serving society and failing to follow Jesus.”

The Lord’s messages and insights to Katie regarding His love, His Kingdom, His ways and His call for all of our lives is remarkable.  Our God’s heart of love and compassion for a hurting world is beyond comprehension.

The connection between insights and experience and transformation seems to be action.  Katie follows Jesus into a hurting world and is gaining abundant life as she gives hers away.  Jesus promises that this can be true for every believer.

“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.”  Matthew 16:24,25

We will never drift into following – we need to take deliberate steps – sometimes radical steps to change direction, to shake loose from the comfort that keeps us safe but threatens our life.
