All she had to do was invite seven ladies over for dinner.
When Jane felt the Lord calling her to start a group for widows she didn’t know where to start.
“How would I do that? I’m not an event planner. I’m not a widow…and this was starting to make my husband very nervous.” Jane said with a smile at the Connecting Streams Volunteer Appreciation and Celebration Event. The audience gave a little chuckle.
“How would they relate to me and me to them?” Jane wondered.
She was obedient and followed the prompting of the Holy Spirit. She invited seven widows over to her house for dinner. They arrived at her home complete strangers, left acquaintances and since then have become a strong community of friendship and support for one another. They are involved in activities together, plan events, trips, potlucks and many have started going to church regularly. Several ladies have come to a personal relationship with Jesus and they are influencing their families.
“So what if I hadn’t bothered?” Jane reflected. “Well, over 50 women could be suffering from isolation, loneliness and even depression…if I hadn’t bothered I would have missed the huge blessings. Being involved with the Widows Group has changed my life. It’s been a highlight for me.”
Jesus asked her to follow him into a hurting world and she said ‘yes’. When Jane tells her story she reminds those listening of the amazing things God does. If we simply trust and obey him He will transform our lives as He continues to transform the lives of those we are reaching out to.
“God is so amazing. He’s not limited by my inability. Whatever the Lord asks us to do, he equips us. He enables us to do it.”
Just inviting seven ladies to dinner…has started something so amazing.
Are you ready to follow Jesus in a hurting world? An adventure awaits for those who say “yes”.
