Search Me, O God! by Cath Thorlakson

Read Jeremiah 8:4-12

“I have listened and heard, but they have not spoken aright; no man repents of his wickedness, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone turns to his (individual) course, as the horse rushes like a torrent into battle.”
                                                                                            Jeremiah 8:6

Whenever I read words like these, I feel checked in my spirit. Next to man’s standards for morality and ethics, I may be fine, but what about next to God’s?

If I were to have my Lord take on flesh for a week and live with me, how would I fare as His minister? He would be beside me while I drive behind that driver that is making me crazy. He would listen in to my conversations with my friends with whom I may discuss others. He may also witness my disagreements or watch (enjoy?) my TV or movie choices with me.

How would it be? At the end of the day, would He need to “re-sensitize” me in regard to some of my practices? Have I blended into the value system of a world greatly influenced by the kingdom of darkness?

When you consider the admonition to “be holy as He is holy”, how are you doing? Is this the standard that you use to make daily choices?

Today is a good day for us to allow God to check us. Knowing that we can easily become desensitized to the attitudes and practices that match the standard of an evil world, why not ask God’s opinion? Why not pray as David did to our God Who knows you thoroughly?

“Search me, (thoroughly) O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts. And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
                                                                           Psalm 139:23-24

Now, how are you doing? Finding any thoughts, behaviors, motivations, or attitudes that need to change? God is walking with you through your days. How is that going for you? Do you see anything you need to re-evaluate or change?
